FAQ
Common questions
What is the AI Visibility Index?
It is a score, out of 100, of how visible a brand is to AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. It combines an Outcome score (how often AI actually mentions and recommends the brand) with a Readiness score (how well the brand's site is built to be found).
How is the AVI score calculated?
The AVI is 60% Outcome and 40% Readiness. Outcome is measured by putting a standardised set of buyer questions to the major AI providers and counting mentions, recommendations and citations, with confidence intervals. Readiness is measured by crawling the site across seven technical pillars. Where a brand has no Outcome measurement yet, we report the Readiness score on its own rather than presenting it as an AVI.
How do you decide which questions to ask the AI?
Each vertical has a fixed, versioned question set — the same questions for every brand in it, so the comparison is fair — covering discovery, comparison, reputation, product and service intent. The questions are authored from category expertise, not sampled from real AI query logs: no provider publishes what people ask, so nobody has ground truth on that, ourselves included. We publish the set's version with every reading, and we state its limits — v1 covers online, national intent and does not yet measure local ('near me') questions. See the methodology for the full detail.
Is the free scan really free?
Yes. The free scan runs the Readiness half — it crawls your site and shows what you can fix, with no signup required. The Outcome measurement and the full remediation plan are part of AVI Pro.
Which AI assistants do you measure?
We are vendor-neutral and measure across the major providers — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity — rather than any single one. A score that only means something inside one product would not be a standard.
Why did a well-known brand score low?
Some large sites block automated crawlers, which lowers their Readiness score even when their Outcome (actual AI mentions) is strong. We flag this rather than hide it — it is exactly why the index measures both halves.
Can you guarantee AI will recommend my brand?
No. The AVI is a repeatable audit and an improvement plan, not a guarantee. We measure the signals that make recommendation more likely and show you how to strengthen them.
What does AVI Pro include?
AVI Pro adds your full cross-provider Outcome score, competitor share-of-voice, and a prioritised remediation plan — every fix with step-by-step instructions and copy-paste code — plus continuous tracking of how your visibility changes over time.
Why did my score move when I changed nothing?
Assistants are not deterministic — ask the same question twice and you can get two different answers. That is why every rate is published with a confidence interval rather than a single figure: it tells you the range the true value sits in. A change inside that range is noise, not progress, and we would rather show you the range than sell you a number that looks more precise than it is.
What if my category isn't on the index yet?
Then it has to be built before you can be ranked, and we will say so rather than measuring you against the wrong field. A category needs a question set and enough of a competitive field for share of voice to mean anything. Run a free scan and we will either place you in an existing category or tell you honestly that yours does not exist yet.
What happens to my score if I cancel?
Billing stops at the end of the period and your published readings stay where they are — your score is part of a public index, not a private dashboard you lose the keys to. What you lose is future measurement and the remediation plan.
